Ad measurement on websites using uBid

Last updated: 1 October 2026

What this is

Some websites use uBid to show sponsored ads. Each ad is labelled “Sponsored” and “Ads by uBid”. uBid counts how often those ads are seen and clicked so the website and its advertisers get accurate reports.

What we measure without asking

Whether or not you agree to anything, uBid records, for each ad shown:

  • that the ad was at least half visible for one second (an impression), and whether it was clicked;
  • the website and placement it was shown on, and a coarse device type (mobile, tablet or desktop).

Nothing is stored on your device for this. Your IP address is used briefly to prevent double counting and abuse, and to work out whether we need to ask for your consent; we don't keep it with these records.

What we ask your permission for

With your permission, uBid stores a random ID in your browser's storage for that website only. It lets us count unique visitors rather than just views. The ID:

  • is created only after you choose “Allow” (or the website’s own consent tool tells us you agreed);
  • is only readable on the website where it was set, and is never shared with or combined across other websites;
  • isn’t linked to your name, email or any uBid account.

In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland we always ask first. Elsewhere we set the ID unless your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal. We remember your answer for up to six months.

Changing your mind

Select “Ads by uBid” on any ad, then “Stop measuring me on this site”. This deletes the ID immediately. Clearing your browser's site data does the same.
